Ganoderma is a fungus that grows on wood, preferably chestnut and oak in decomposition, and is well-known in Eastern countries where it is attributed with many beneficial properties.

It is a tough fungus rich in tannins, thus of little gastronomic interest. Among the many active principles contained in Ganoderma lucidum, Beta-glucans, found abundantly in the fungus's cell walls, should be noted.
